about

For Wage Slaves we walked to the Amazon Logistics Deport located along the river and thought about the history of the Lea River as the birthplace of the 8-hour day, following the successes of The Match Girls’, The Gas Workers’ and Dockers’ strikes between 1888-1889. We also explored parallels between the conditions these factory workers fought against and the conditions casual workers face today with the rise of zero-hour contracts and other appalling practices that see workers still being treated as commodities rather than human beings.
